Default User ID on ANONYMOUS Node

Inegration Broker -Configuration of Anonymous Node

I am looking for a straight forward answer of what the exact purpose of the ANONYMOUS Node is. My understanding is that the Default User ID should have least privilege. I am unable to find any material on the purpose of the ANONYMOUS Node other than it is a fall back if no particular node is specified.

I understand it can not be deleted, but am really looking to understand its purpose and the security ramifications.
