Can the page and field configurator be used to customize subpages?

I have attempted to use the page and field configurator for several different pages, but the field that needs to be hidden or made read only is on a subpage.  Can the page and field configurator be used to customize fields contained on subpages?  If so please provide direction.  Otherwise, I would like this to become an enhancement request for idea space.
