Global variable not carrying to popup page using DoModal.

We are upgrading from CS9 PT 8.53 to CS92 PT 8.56 and we have custom code that is not working in our upgraded environment. I capture menu name in the glob variable but when the popup page activates the global string variable is blank. Has this changed in tools 8.56?
