Online Timeout Before Web Profile Timeout

We have a requirement for some of our reports to run "online" (without being spent to the process scheduler like a normal report). As a result when the report runs it can take a couple minutes to collect the data, process it, and then write out the bi publisher report and display it to the user. In some cases it "times out" (the user gets a blank screen and is timed out). This timeout seems random and occurs BEFORE the inactivity timeout specified on the web profile (which is 30 minutes).

1. Any idea why this would occur?

2. Is there a client or sever side log setting I should turn on to see why this is happening? What's making the timeout happen?
