Need to rename the bootloader file at the shell level

Trying to complete an upgrade on a 3900 system to version 8.1. We were able to load the new image and bootloader file to the correct locations but when we went to rename the bootloader file, the change did not take place and now the SBC keeps rebooting.  Is there a way to access the shell to rename the bootloader file to the correct name?
