ElasticSearch database requirements

We are planning to implement ElasticSerach (latest vesrsion).  So far, we're on SES  (running on unix) and Database & PeopleSoft also installed on Solaris

1. SES comes with its own database, Do we have to have a database associated with Elasticsearch?  If so, is it tied to Oracle database or SQL Server?

2. Can the Elasticsearch and the PeopleSoft Web application be implemented on the same Windows box?
