We are upgrading to Tools 8.57.03 Should the custom image files we display on homepage tiles be jpg

We are upgrading from HCM PUM 23, PT 8.56.07 to PUM 29 PT 8.57.03. We used SVG images to display on homepage tiles in our 8.56 environment. In the new 8.57 environment all the SVG images are the same size except for personal detail tile which is oversized. Peoplebooks says JPG or GIF images are best. Should we use JPG or GIF instead of SVG now?
Anyone have a similar issue?
Also, I cannot get access to Branding Objects in our new environment even though I have Portal Administrator and Portal Manager Roles. Looks like I can access all the other components and pages under PeopleTools>Portal>Branding except Branding Objects and Define Headers and Footers. Is there another role I need ?
