Integration Gateway for Systems with Different Tools Releases

We have HCM, FSCM and CS systems on PeopleTools 8.55. There are IB links across these three systems.
Currently, this is achieved by having LOCAL gateway for each system. Each local gateway has the definition for local default node and two remote nodes. It works fine since all three systems are on same Tools release. However, we need to update node definition (toolsRel parameter) on all three gateways every time any one of the system goes through Tools minor upgrade.
In near future, our CS will be upgraded to 8.56 while HCM and FSCM will continue to remain on Tools 8.55. We found several articles on MOS stating that in such situations the gateway should be on the higher tools version.
