Is there a way to authenticate directly to the AD Server rather than using the Oracle password filte

We are upgrading to OID 12.2.1.3 and we are wondering if it is possible to stop using the Oracle password filter for managing the external logins for our Oracle database users.  Right now we use the Oracle password filter on each of our AD servers and they push password changes into OID.  The end goal is the same to let end users authenticate to the username and password that is used for their network access.  Someone on a webex mentioned a way to set up OID to use a "pass through" to AD if to get the passwords and I'm
