Project Plan for Simultaneous PeopleTools 8.57 Upgrade and Get Current Effort (HCM and FCM)?

We are in the exploration stages of an upgrade from PT 8.54.36 to 8.57.x and Get Current effort on HCM Images (9.2.09-9.2.3x) and FCM Images (9.2.05-9.2.3x). What would be the recommended steps for this upgrade. We know we want to complete the upgrade to PeopleTools 8.57 and then apply the current images and our customizations.

What I am really looking for is a high level process (plan) for this effort as well as any pitfalls to be aware of.

If anyone has expertise or experience with a similar dual upgrade/update effort, please share.
