How to turn off message log inserts for Business Process Weaver in PeopleSoft FS?

The BPW constantly inserts entries in the message log and parm tables  which is causing locks and also the process scheduler to incorrectly show as 'Down'. Does the logging serve any purpose and also can it be turned off?
