Is it possible to replace classic component search with an Elastic Search?

I'd like to provide greater search flexibility within my custom component and to do so I'd like to direct my component search to pull up my Elastic Search definition instead of the Standard/Advanced search definition associated to my component.

Is this possible?

If yes, can you direct me to some documentation on the subject or provide a quick how to?
