Question on cloning Self Service roles / permission lists

We have a custom self service permission list / roles created to access Fluid Home page tiles. Now we need to exclude some of page access to certain dept employees, we cloned from existing roles, and removed certain pages. However when we try to login with new cloned custom role, we are getting DEFAULT_LP (Unable to load) issue and cannot access home page.? It seems like cloning roles does not really give access for cloned roles from original role. Is there any option to make sure the cloned roles have access to all pages including Fluid home page tiles, etc?
