Using XSLT Templates to produce Excel in BI Publisher

Can anyone share examples or documentation of using raw xslt templates to create excel for bi publisher in PepoleSoft?

I know you can use RTF templates, and PeopleSoft has an enhancement request to support using Excel itself to create templates (like you can do in the full, non-PS version of BI Publisher).
