Storing file attachments in database - how much space does 1 GB file require in Database

Hi All,

Apologies for a silly question.

I am looking at some rationale for storing file attachments in database.

How much space does database storage require to store 1 GB file when stored in database records.

Does 1 GB file on flat file system require 1 GB in database records? or perhaps < or > ?

Is there any rationale as such?
