9.2 HCM: Long Edit Box and Count Characters

Long Edit Box field properties has "Enable Long EditCounter".  It is word count and not exactly character count. (Example - Candidate Gateway pages, Questionnaire Answers is a long edit box)

What are the options for fluid pages? The standard custom Javascript (to count characters, with HTML area) works for classic pages, does not work for Fluid Pages? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, does "modifiable by javascript" option need to be used when using custom javacript, etc?
