How To Setup Record Field Prompt Value Carry Forward

Happy Veterans Day all (and thank you for your service Vets).

PeopleTools 8.56.09.

I feel silly for asking help on this one but it is one of those PeopleTools items that many of us take for granted and I personally don't know how to control and would love some of your thoughts on the matter.

I'm trying to figure out how in some cases Prompt values entered into a page carry forward to the prompt pop-up page.

I would like to have a user enter a partial EMPLID value into a prompt and then if they need further information they can click the prompt button and the partially entered value will carry to the prompt dialog with a partial search returned.
