elastic search namespace alias

We have implemented ElasticSearch 6.1.2 on Tools 8.57 / FSCM 9.2, using a three node cluster (RHEL 7.1).  We've been experiencing issues with unassigned shards and I'm working with Oracle Support to address.  They did mention that using the namespace alias feature may be of help to avoid having to recreate indexes when PeopleSoft environments are refreshed from Production.

Has anyone implemented namespace aliasing in Elastic Search for this purpose, and if so, how successful have you been ? Based on What I've read in support docs on this subject, if you wanted to continue using index urls that have been refreshed to your targets from Production, you would configure namespace aliasing with the database name as the name of your production database and the alias would be the name of your refreshed target  database.  Does that sound right ?  I plan to experiment with this over the next few days, but if anyone has experience here that could
