PTF environment question...

We are implementing PTF for the first time and I have a question about environment setup. We have two options for where the scripts are created/executed/Stored.

1. Use TEST environment which is in the migration path to PROD.

2. Use a separated PTF environment that is not in the migration path.

Any one who is using PTF heavily and for a some time now, can you please chime in on the way you have done it and what issues if any you have seen.
