Blanket Agreement - Expired Status

Hello,

We have a  requirement to change the status of blanket agreements which are already expired (well past today's date). Is there a way to create a custom status as Expired and use API to change the status as Expired?

if not what is the best approach to change the status as it is currently as Approved.

Appreciate any kind of help or insight.
