Question on owner of PeopleTools 8.53 installation

Hello, can anyone please confirm if it requires to use root user to install PeopleTools 8.53 on Linux? In install PeopleTools 8.58 installation document says "You must have root access to deploy the PeopleSoft DPKs in Linux ..."
