Issue with CI bringing in history items despite GetHistoryItems=False

in PeopleTools and Lifecycle Management - PSFT (MOSC) Question

Has anyone else had this issue? The component interface is GPMX_CI_ABS_ENTRY. We have a process to mass add absence events, and it has been processing fine until COVID hit. Now, our weekly number of events went from ~30 to ~300, so it caused us to research why the process was taking so long. We are finding that it's bringing in sometimes over a hundred historical rows even though we specify GetHistoryItems=False. This slows the get and save considerably.

Any thoughts on what's going on or what to try?
