Carriage Returns being inserted when importing a flat file into PeopleSoft FSCM

Has anyone experienced the following craziness?

We recently upgrade our PeopleTools version from PT855.29 to PT857.15. Everything seems to be working just fine, except occasionally, when our users try to import a flat file, GL journal entries for example, the import abends, usually with the error message "error copying fields..." in the PeopleCode trace file. Based on our investigation, it looks like as the file is imported, carriage returns are inserted at seemingly random places in the file. Also vexing is the fact that this only happens once in a while. Most files are successfully imported, regardless of no discernable difference in
