Can we safely create an OIM UDF that we don't sync to LDAP?

I'm a bit new to IDM and trying to work through a problem.

We are running Oracle IDM Suite 11.1.2.3.0 with LDAP sync of OIM attributes to LDAP.

I want to create an OIM attribute that we do not sync to LDAP. We have no need of the attribute in LDAP, we simply need the corresponding OIM.USR table column that is created when the OIM attribute is added in the sysadmin console.

Is there any problem with creating the attribute in OIM only, and not creating the LDAP attribute?
