Setting up delegates in User Profile- Approval routing

Hello,

We are on PSOFT 9.2 ( Image#33). Under PeopleTools -> Security-> User profile; we have set up alternate user ID for an employee who will be out of office for few days. As per PeopleBooks, alternate user id should receive routings sent to this employee. However, we see that future approvals are not getting routed automatically to the alternate user and we have manually reassign through the Monitor approval page. This is happening with Journals and we have customized the Journal workflow.

Can you please provide some pointers as to why this is happening.
