WebLogic Plugin for Apache not able to connect using SSL to backend, when Apache webgate is enabled

Hi,

Our production environments are using OAM 11G with OAM 11G webgates for Apache. We have been working on moving to OAM 12C (server-side) for awhile now, and up through early May this year (a few weeks ago), we were told that Oracle had no plans for an OAM 12C webgate for Apache, so we've been using the 11G webgate.

However, we recently ran into a problem, where, if Apache has the webgate enabled, and if the WebLogic Plugin for Apache is used to proxy backend servers, and if the Plugin -> backend connection is configured for SSL, we cannot send requests to the backends. Specifically, even when the OAM authentication succeeds (we confirm that the browser has OAMAuthnCookie, etc.) the WL Plugin is not able to forward the request to the backend target. Instead, the connection hangs for a long time and the browser eventually shows a "Failure of Bridge" error.

Howdy, Stranger!
