Are any PeopleSoft Customers using Application Server "Database Cache" in Production?

With an unexplained increase in Application Server caching "issues" (application problems resolved by clearing app server cache), we are reevaluating our middle-tier services caching options. We are exploring Database Cache as a potential "single source of truth" across our middle-tier services (application server, batch server, etc.).

Our environment: HCM 9.2, PeopleTools 8.56, OS W2k12 R2, DB Oracle 12.2, using WebLogic.

Note - I am skeptical of the contents of Doc ID 1314396 (E-AS: Details About EnableDBCache Parameter On Application Server and Process Scheduler Domains), where it says: "Database Cache is not recommended for Production environments given that it's performance is only slightly better than no Local File Cache storage at all." (We are evaluating it currently in a development environment, and it seems to be performing fine as we learn how to configure it.)
