backup issue using recovery catalog

Dear all,

we have upgraded one of our database from 12c to 19c. backup team is facing an issue while taking the backup through recovery catalog with the error "the database version and the RC db version is not matching"

so we have a doubt if we upgrade the rc database to 19c will it take the 12c database backup or we need to upgrade all the database to 19c.

please help and advice.
