eBS R12.2.10 - Workflow Notification Mailer

In sending Workflow Notification Remittance advice emails, when the email that is sent from eBS R12.2.10 is received by the email gateway a banner is added to the bottom of the email. The problem is the banner contains alot of junk that is not seen in standard emails that are received by the mail gateway. Mail gateway is using Sophos to append the banner. Any idea what might be causing this - I think it is how the email is encoded from a character set perspective in eBS R12.2.10 and the ability of the mail gateway to handle this character
