Cross platform restore with RMAN for Linux<->Windows for oracle 12g onwards

Dear Experts,

I have general questions on cross platform restore with RMAN backup.Here source and target are linux and windows(or vice versa).
As per note 2003327.1, it says this note is applicable for Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 11.2.0.2 and later.In this note, it is clearly mentioned that online redo application is not designed for cross platform restore for linux<->winddows.This means, although restore may work, recovery will fail.
However, as per note 1079563.1, it says the above limitation is upto 11g.From 12g onwards, RMAN functionality 'FOR TRANSPORT' has been added.
