Can I have access to both the MOSC and Cloud Communities?

I am a long-time user of this community (MOSC). Because I know how valuable communities are, I requested access to the Cloud Community so I could research some things as part of considering whether to move to the cloud or not. After I did that, I had trouble getting back in this Community, and it's not clear whether that's a coincidence or not?

Can I have access to both MOSC and Cloud communities with the same user id? If I can use the same user id, will my status/points transfer or will I be reset back to a first-time user? If I need a separate user id for the Cloud community, can it be linked to the same email as my MOSC user id?
