Elastic Search implementation - multiple application servers

Looking for some feedback in regard to the infrastructure needed to support Elastic Search within PT.

I have the search framework setup & configured for the menu PTPORTALREGISTRY and have had no issues in our testing environments. Our testing environment consists of one web server and one application server plus a separate server for Elastic Search.

Our production environment however is much different - multiple web servers at different sites with multiple applications supporting the web servers at separate sites.

Are there additional considerations to make regarding this? For example, does each application server need to be configured as a node in Integration Broker? Do I need multiple gateways or brokers?
