Grid doesn't appear on fluid page when previously invisible column is made visible

I am having an issue modifying a subpage used in a fluid context. There is a column that was previously set to invisible that I want to make visible, but when I do so and save the subpage I get this warning from the App Designer (PeopleTools 8.60.17).

When I proceed with this change, viewing the fluid page that uses this subpage results in the grid not showing up at all.

Is there something else I am not considering to ensure that changing a field property in the grid would keep it compatible with its fluid layout?
