Impact analysis on Changing PROGRAM_CODE ChartField Length from 5char to 15char

We have one requirement where we would like to use program code but the value we are going to store in this chart field is more that delivered 5 char...so we are planning to change the length of this field from 5char to 15char.

We are in FSCM9.2 PUM49 and tools 8.60.11

We want to ask below question:

1) How to easily do this change and how to build all records in finance database.

2) What is future impact on maintenance when we apply PUM? How PUM update is going to behave when altering all the records? Is it going to truncate the data which is more that 5 char ? OR Is it going to skip the Alter?
