OpenSearch and OpenSearch Dashboards HTTPS Required?

Using Tools 8.63, FS/SCM 9.2.55

The documentation for creating a search instance (see below) seems to indicate that we MUST have SSL/HTTPS enabled for BOTH the PIA/PS and OpenSearch or neither. For example if our PIA site URL starts with HTTPS, then we need to configure OpenSearch with SSL and setup the certificates.

We've been told by a consultant that this isn't true - that is that you can have OpenSearch and OpenSearch dashboards NOT setup w/ SSL and have your PeopleSoft PIA setup with SSL.

  1. Is the consultant right and maybe I'm misreading the documentation?
  2. If the consultant is not right and a HTTPS PIA means that we need to setup HTTPS/SSL for both, do we also need to modify the GATEWAY listener to run as HTTPS?
