How Does JGEN Derive the Date Range for "Begin Date - To Period"?

We are investigating Journal Generator (JGEN) date selection logic for AR journals and would appreciate any technical insight.
The JGEN run control was configured as follows:
- From Date Option: Begin Date - To Period
- From Date: Blank
- To Date Option: Specify Date
- To Date: 06/30/2027
With these parameters, AR journals with accounting dates of 17-JUL-2026 and 05-OCT-2026 were not selected. The journals were selected only after changing the run control to:
- From Date Option: Specify Date
- From Date: 07/01/2026
- To Date Option: Specify Date
- To Date: 06/30/2027
From a technical perspective, how does JGEN derive the effective From Date when From Date Option = Begin Date - To Period
