How to remove a currency from a vendor

I want to remove a currency from a vendor to prevent us from paying that vendor in that currency. However, in the past we have paid this vendor in that currency so I cannot delete the currency from the vendor record. I get the error message "You cannot delete currencies with transactions". Given this situation, how can I prevent us from paying this vendor in that currency?
