Scenario
User has sales orders linked to work orders, and even though the work orders are built, the quantities aren't committing to the sales orders. As a result, these orders don’t appear on the Commit Orders or Reallocate Orders pages, and they're unable to fulfill them.
Solution
The issue stems from missing information on the sales order’s item line. To resolve this, ensure the Inventory Location (and, if applicable, the Inventory Subsidiary) is populated before processing the linked work order. Below are clear steps to fix this, along with a workaround if needed:
- Populate Inventory Location:
- Open your sales order.
- For each item line linked to a work order, select an Inventory Location.
- If your system uses subsidiaries, also set the Inventory Subsidiary.
- Save the sales order.
- Process the Work Order:
- Build the work order attached to the sales order.
- Refresh the sales order to check if the quantities are now committed.
- Once committed, the Fulfill button should become available.
- Test the Fix (Optional):
- Create a copy of an affected sales order.
- Add the Inventory Location to the item line(s) before saving.
- Save the sales order, then process the linked work order.
- Refresh the sales order to confirm the quantities are committed and fulfillment is enabled.
Workaround (If Needed)
If you can’t update the sales orders or need a quick fix:
- Navigate to Setup > Accounting > Accounting Preferences > Order Management Tab.
- Set Fulfill based on Commitment to Ignore Commitment.
- Save the changes.
- This allows you to fulfill sales orders without committed quantities.
Note: This is a temporary solution. For long-term accuracy, ensure the Inventory Location is set correctly.
The system needs the Inventory Location to link the built work order quantities to the sales order. Without it, the quantities remain uncommitted, blocking fulfillment.
By setting the Inventory Location before processing the work order, your sales orders will show committed quantities and be ready for fulfillment.
