Scenario:
An accounting team member attempts to import a Statistical Journal Entry dated for the end of the previous fiscal month. That accounting period has been locked to prevent any further changes. The user is operating under a custom role that does not have the Override Period Restrictions permission. As a result, the system blocks the import and displays the error message, even though the user is authorized to make the adjustment.
The G/L impact of a transaction in a closed period cannot be changed.
This error typically indicates that the user is trying to import or post a transaction into a closed or locked accounting period, but their role lacks the necessary permissions to override period restrictions. By default, only roles with the Override Period Restrictions permission set to Full can post transactions into periods that are closed or locked for general entry.
Solution:
To resolve this issue, the custom role being used must be updated to include the Override Period Restrictions permission with the access level set to Full. This will allow users with the role to post transactions into locked or closed accounting periods when necessary.
- Log in to NetSuite using a role with Administrator privileges.
- Navigate to Setup > Users/Roles > Manage Roles.
- Locate the custom role experiencing the issue and click Edit next to it.
- Go to the Permissions tab.
- Click on the Setup subtab.
- In the Permission field, search for and select Override Period Restrictions.
- Set the Level to Full.
- Click Add.
- Click Save to apply the changes.
