Journal entries are commonly used to record accounting adjustments in NetSuite. Occasionally, you may need to remove a journal entry that was entered incorrectly or is no longer needed.
NetSuite allows an existing journal entry to be deleted when it has not been approved for posting or has not been posted. A posted journal entry can also be unposted by deleting it when the required conditions are met.
Before You Delete a Journal Entry
- Before attempting to delete a posted journal entry, confirm the following:
- Your role has the Full level of the Make Journal Entry permission.
- The posting period containing the journal entry is open.

Notes
Be careful when deleting accounting transactions because deletion removes the journal entry rather than creating another transaction to offset it. Deleting a transaction may affect related applications, reconciliations, and other linked records. Review the transaction's related activity before deleting.
For new users, consider validating the process in a sandbox account before applying it in production.
