  • I realise that you have been using Analytics for some time with no problems, therefore I suspect that the recent changes to your site have caused this issue to arise. My initial reaction is hogwash... That said, I have not used auto-tagging since Google Analytics first came out. I cannot imagine that NetSuite v2007.1 would…
  • Paul, Your new site map is properly formed from an xml perspective. Couple of points: 1) The CSS style sheet is being listed:…
  • Paul, Does your site have nearly 6,000 pages to index? The sitemap has ~35,000 lines. Each URL takes 6 lines. 35k / 6 = ~ 6,000 pages.
  • now I'm considering changing back to the old format (i.e. /item name)... I wasn't worried about doing this until I read this thread...should I worry?? Dave at http://www.deepsurplus.com/ Would you provide some examples URL's of the old format and the new format?
  • 3) Site should not use the archaic table layout, but a valid XHTML/CSS layout. This is the only way to design the website the way you want while keeping the order of elements the way search engines should read it – Unique-important bits first. I wish more NetSuite customers would request this. I had three firms turn me…
  • Philip, 1) We used Workspace Macro Pro to enter about 1400 redirects. Not ideal but it works. There is an enhancement request to allow import of redirects. Vote for enhancement 124084 2) I had not thought of the difficulty to determine this. You can export a list of all your items with the descriptive URL. I do not think…
  • We are getting our 2007.1 upgrade on Friday ... I'm assuming that if Google indexed my site this way, it'd require another round of redirect efforts to correct that...so am I correct in assuming if I wait until after the 2007.1 upgrade, then change the descriptive URL setting to /item-name, then do the 301 redirects, then…
  • ...when I edit page titles, it also changes the title in my Tabs across the top row of tabs on my site. you mention an 80 character summary, but how do I edit the text for the title in the top of the browser and w/in the page and not effect the the titles in my tab selections? Brion, Sorry for the delay in getting back, we…
  • a) Strivectin SD (Sits in 12 catagories) http://www.skinstore.co.uk/StriVectin-SD (Google ranks 3rd Pos) http://www.skinstore.co.uk/Home/StriVectin-SD http://www.skinstore.co.uk/Skincare/StriVectin-SD http://www.skinstore.co.uk/Skincare/Ageing-Skin/StriVectin-SD http://www.skinstore.co.uk/Brands/Strivectin/StriVectin-SD…
  • Seriously: Has anyone tried this switch and seen the effect without all the redirects? P Philip, Please provide me a list of 3 items that are listing in at least 2 categories and post the URLs here. Therefore, please post: 1) The category URL's 2) The items URL's I will take a look at the http traffic and at the Google…
  • There is not a .htaccess mechanism that I know of in NetSuite. You do it via Setup | Web Site | Redirects Just checked and I have 771 redirects without issue. Google and his friends have successfully "redirected" all of our hold *.php & &.html urls to NetSuite.
  • cutterback, In short, you do not want to change the format of your URL's without giving it serious planning. - I assume then the item URLs just revert back to the root directory with no impact to the tab-category URLs which remain the same (eg. http://www.smallconcept.com/BABY/BABYBOY). The main tabs & categories are the…
  • For example....http://www.deepsurplus.com/Network-Structured-Wiring/CAT5e-Ethernet-Cable-Plenum-Solid/Ethernet-CAT5e-Blue-1000ft-Bulk-350Mhz-UTP-Plenum-Rated-Solid-Cable would become http://www.deepsurplus.com/Network-Structured-Wiring/Ethernet-CAT5e-Blue-1000ft-Bulk-350Mhz-UTP-Plenum-Rated-Solid-Cable or at least I think…
  • Also I am informed from another source that other platforms have automatic 301 redirects. If you change the Item/Catagory URL at all, then a 301 Redirct is automatically created. Now that would be a really nice Enhancement. I developed an auto redirect tool for our prior platform. It was really nice to have but it took a…
  • My other idea was to just leave all of the duplicate items (except for one) out of the google site-map. Would that work? PS: If you don't trust the NetSuite tagging of duplicates, you could hand code <meta name="googlebot" content="noarchive, nofollow, noindex"> into the meta-tag of each duplicate. Then you can later…
  • Tom, If you are 100% sure that items will NEVER show in two categories, the /tab/category/item-name setting is pretty nifty. In our case, we put one item in many categories. If we use /tab/category/item-name, we could have up to 5 URL's for the EXACT page: mysite.com/tall-trees/item1 mysite.com/slim-trees/item1…
  • Julian, No worries about "hijacking". Does not bother me a bit. Yes, that would be a great report. It will be something I look into for 2008 but right now I am heads down in busy season.
  • cutterback, 1) From my testing, v2007.1 does not present sessionid's to the bots. The pagination for the categories is a bit of an issue as Julian points out. 2) There are two ways to setup URL's in NetSuite. One way has the category in the URL and the other does not. 3) I think this is the same as #1 above. Does Google…
  • Trevor, Interesting. I cannot figure out where that is coming from. I will look on our site to see if I can find anything similar. I am stumped on where that is coming from.
  • All - some of the ns2007.1 posts here are not really best practices but they are important. I am selfishly posting part 1, 2, etc so if later, I find I have written something incorrect, I can search one thread to fix.
  • If you browse the site while emulating the user agent GoogleBot, you do not see any of the NetSuite system stuff. You cannot login, checkout, view cart, etc. Freaky dude but good. Why is this important? The bots do not need to see the system stuff, this will reduce the chance that someone will do a search, click on a…
  • Just a quick note on ns 2007.1. Prior to NS v2007.1, using <a href="<%=getAttribute('sitecategory','-107','storeURL')%>">Christmas Trees</a> for presentation tabs would result in a system URL instead of the friendly URL. (it worked fine for categories) As of 2007.1, it will generate the friendly URL for presentation tabs.…
  • Do you use google analytics in your site or something else? If so, how did you get around the problem of the URL switch from mystore.com to checkout.netsuite.com? Yes, I do use Google Analytics and I am quite perplexed with NetSuite has not provided the ability to properly switch from mystore.com to checkout.netsuite.com.…
  • no black marks for having content hosted on a different server/domain? that doesnt count as outbound links? my pdf's are starting to add up but I was worried about hosting them on different server. assets.signsdirect.com would be considered a sub domain. The debate has raged for a while on how sub domains impact SEO.…
  • Mark, You are welcome. Pleased to help.
  • Trevor, I do not know but would like to help learn what it is. I looked on your home page and could not find any links that looked like that. You you post a URL that has the link you refer to?
  • Julian, Sure. Go to www.ChristmasTreeForMe.com. On the row of tabs across the top, "Christmas Trees" is a presentation tab. Prior to ns2007.1, the URL you would see would have been something like: http://www.christmastreeforme.com/s.nl/c.482623/n.1/sc.9/.f now it is:…
  • Prior to ns2007.1, NetSuite would send navigation parameters to GoogleBot, etc. For example: http://www.mysite.com/Tall-Christmas-Tree?sc=7&category=41 The ?sc=7&category=41 helps Netsuite understand how the user got to a specific page. This is good but it should not be presented to the bots. I just tested and my tests are…
  • Is there a way to export categories for the same purpose? If there is, we haven't been able to find it. Not sure. What happens to item URLs that have already been manually changed if you mass modify the URLs in NetSuite? Are they reset as well? From my tests, mass modify will not over write values already set. Does the…
  • What is Page Title? When you look at any web page in your browser, the Page Title is the words in the upper left corner of the browser. Typically, this is the white letters with the blue background on the top of the browser. Why is Page Title important? 1) I have read that the page title is the most important set of words…
