If not an industry-wide standard need and is just a one off for that single Customer, I would create an "alert" from a saved search and update manually. I would not create a workflow based on one customer's need. Hopefully someone might provide additional advice. Best.

The NetSuite admin may need to check that preference for you. If your item is a child of another Item and that "Parent" Item is inactive, then the Children are Inactive unless you reactivate the child items individually.
