Oh wow that is a simple solution! I thought by using a template that those options didn't matter anymore. Believe it or not, several fields that are grayed out after clicking "use template" will still effect your layout. Weird interface hu?

We choose one sub-category as the master version of that category. We then use a redirect on all but the main occurrence of that sub-category. It might make the categories bread crumb path work funny, but it avoids duplicate content (with different URLs) which is bad for SEO. T
