We already started the picture moving process and are about 50% done. I'm sure that after it is finished and we have invested our 500 man hours of labor in the change over ..NS will then release their fix or some tool to automate the change. Unfortunately, we can't afford to be as far behind our competitors as NS would…

We now use a custom field as our image alt tag. We would use storedisplayname, but we have quotation marks in many of our item names and they don't work in an alt image tag. We use a custom item field (named image alt tag) that gets it's value from a custom formula like this...…

They could do it both ways. They could 1st offer the ability to just have the webstore show your image file name at the end of the image URL. THEN, they could also offer an automation tool that will rename all of your images based on the item title followed by ".jpg" or ".gif" and it would replace the spaces with "-". Use…

Descriptive URLs helped, but you also will see some improvement if you use an xml site-map that references image URLs. T

I read this online: Google will only index files that look like images. If you use scripts to generate dynamic images, do some research into caching or rewriting instead. As far as the Google Image bot is concerned, "image.php?file=example.jpg" is a php file, not a jpeg. One problem that I have encountered with NS is that…

I haven't heard anyone come out against descriptive image URLs and everyone seems to agree that having them bring a lot of FREE traffic from Google image search. More traffic would help the bottom line of just about any NetSuite e-commerce store. So, Netsuite ...when can we expect to get this feature? -Tom

enhancement #131530 Web Store > images > Support for descriptive URLs for images
-
Enhancement #131530 would solve your problem and our problem with image URLs. See this post... https://usergroup.netsuite.com/users/showthread.php?t=2811 I found a way to have descriptive image URLs in NS, but now we just need a fast way to automate the procedure (if NS doesn't just add descriptive image URLs as a option).…

I also ran a wordpress blog and was impressed with the ease of use. I took it down temporarily, but it may be time to fire it up again. Good points about how easy it was to add your own SEO features with the use of those free plugins. It is easy to add those features and that is why most of the cheapest shopping carts…
-
Julian, Thanks for the tip. NetSuite, when is the NS system going to generate our sitemaps? This feature has been around for a very long time on many of the cheapest ecommmerce platforms. T

It seems like they could write a script that moves your existing images to the other area in the filing cabinet (where a "regular URL" does become available) and then paste those regular URLs into your corresponding item's image preferences. The current system allows users to upload images that aren't "web ready" in that…

At the $19.98 month CityMax, you simply set your sitemap variables when building each item in your catalog or webstore. Each item has a variable for.. Include this page in site = yes/no Frequency of change = hourly/daily/weekly/monthly/yearly Priority = 0.0 to 1.0 You set the variable in the items and whala ...your…

Is there a way to use "nofollow" on related and correlated items? We use this tag in our template... <%=getCurrentAttribute('item','allrelateditemshtml')%> ...and we don't want those related item links followed when our site is indexed. -Tom
-
Yes, but that isn't possible in NetSuite IF you have information items that are dropped into categories. Our "Contact Us" and "Privacy Statements" are all information items. They are placed into a category called "info center". The rel="nofollow" is part of the "link code" linking the category to the "information item" and…
-
I tried both verification methods. Our still gets... "We were unable to verify your file due to a server timeout."
-
Would this issue also be the reason why our webstore hangs when customers first visit to our webstore? I have noticed long delays in loading the webstore and it says "waiting for google analytics" on the status bar at the bottom of the browser window. It only does it when you first go to the webstore. After it finally…

Another way (but not the best) is to not have duplicates. We have some repeat item categories and we choose ONE of them to be the "main one". Then, at the second location where we want that item category, we put a new category with the same name ...but the new category has a redirect in the HTML category description. So,…
-
Also I am informed from another source that other platforms have automatic 301 redirects. If you change the Item/Catagory URL at all, then a 301 Redirct is automatically created. Now that would be a really nice Enhancement. I agree. Do you have an enhancement number?
-
My other idea was to just leave all of the duplicate items (except for one) out of the google site-map. Would that work? We use "/tab/category/item-name" and have a few duplicate items and I really don't want to mess with loosing page rankings unless I know the benefits are worth it and and that there are no easier…

The only way I can see to change how the images would work is to host the images on a non-NetSuite server. OR... get NS to change things so we get the desired result. That would be the simplest solution and best for everyone. Tom

Is there a easy way to have NS change the homepage daily? I could design seven pages (one for each day of the week) and have NetSuite rotate them. Maybe they would be similar, but would have a different daily special. Our site has a HackerSafe seal that has the current date and says it was checked on that date. Does that…

I would prefer auto redirects with a manual override for those that want that level of control. T

The problem of double meta-tags is tracked by issue 125926. Please file a case with NetSuite support and request to have your case attached to this issue. What good are all the bells and whistles and "one system" features of NS ...without enough traffic/customers ...because of broken SEO features that we have to lobby to…

In a test account, our NS rep went to "set up > web site > set-up website" and changed "Descriptive URLs" from "/tab_name/category/item_name" to "/item_name" and then saved the change. Then we went to an item that was previously at http://webstore.com/tab/catagory/item and didn't redirect to http://webstore.com/item and it…
-
Other than the "duplicates with exact copy page content except for the tab_category URL component", was there any other reason to not display the category in the URLs? Because the v2007.1 release notes say that this was included in the release... Web Presence - 127744 Web Store > SEO > Spiders should not be allowed to…

A package that is as expensive as Netsuite is and that claims to be as devoted to ecommerce as Netsuite does SIMPLY CANNOT IGNORE BASIC FUNCTIONALITY. Another example is the ability to see a report of what terms people searched for when using the in-site web-store product search tool. That report is FREE at yahoo-store and…

Julian & Tom, The following is not an optimal solution but it might work for you. Both Google and Yahoo support CSV formats for Sitemap. CSV is not optimal because you cannot specify priority, update interval or last edit date. Priority is the only one important to me and that is simply a "suggested" flag in the event of a…

I learned something today that was messing up our NetSuite SEO. At "Setup > Web Site Setup" .... then the area marked "Search Engine Optimization" in the "set-up tab" ...it has an area that says "meta tag HTML". We mistakenly used that area. That area is not to be used IMHO. We entered: <meta name="description"…

I am happy (on the basis that I seem to have no option) to buy, beg, borrow or steal a third party product to do this. Can anyone recommend a product that is capable of dealing with Netsuite's idiosyncracies? We need to keep pushing for automated sitemaps (like Yahoo store has). NS saves us some time in SOME areas ....but…

OK, I'll go first. Yahoo Store. Averaged 5,400 page views per day (in 2004). Was spending about $1,200/month in PPC. NetSuite Store. Averaged 3,300 page views per day in recent Google analytics report. We are spending about $2,500/month in PPC. -Tom PS: I don't rule out external factors like new competition and/or the…
