Allow search/display users in DV UI by Display Name (not by User Id)

Description

In classical OBIEE UI users (in permissions lists - ACL) are displayed (and also searchable) by their Display Names (LDAP attribute) - which is pretty common.

But in DV UI, users can be searched (and also displayed) only by their User Ids, not by their Display Names. This is quite annoying -since you need to know exactly precise User Id . We are (from classical OBIEE UI) quite used to search users by their Display Names and thus we would like to have the same possibility within DV UI (for OAS product).

Use Case and Business Need

Allow search/display users in DV  UI by Display Name (not by User Id) - thus improve user experience and provide same behaviour in DV UI as in classical OBIEE UI.

  • Can you post a picture or show which screen this is on?  For example, if I add access for sharing I get the display name.

    Hi Bret,

see attached screenshot for data set acces screen - this is for OAS and it has been confirmed by Oracle support, that this behaviour is the same on their OAS environment.

Your are right, if you search by User Id, Display Name is shown, but when you save it, User Id is then shown. And you cannot search by Display Name.

    Hi Michal,

Can you verify the IDCS <->AD bridge setting. This may happen due to mapping of Active Directory -> IDCS mapping during sync.

I believe the field mapped currently might be "sAMAccountName" instead of "displayName"

    Check this page for mapping.

    HI Alwin,

we are not  a cloud customer, thus we are not using OAC, but OAS (Oracle Analytics Server - on premise sw). And we are having integration to AD (via Authentication provider) in place for ages (since OBIEE 11g/12c before we upgraded to OAS).

And searching users (from AD) by Display Name is working perfectly in "classical" OBIEE UI (in OAS), so this issue is strictly related to DV UI - thus the problem lies over there (not it Authentication provided setup).

    Regards

I can replicate the issue. In our instance, we use OAC integrated with IDCS/ADFS for authentication.

So it looks like, that it does not work for OAS and OAC as well. Thanks Marcelo for confirmation.
