I installed BI Publisher Desktop on my PC but while trying to get the Add In to show up in the Word Ribbon I inadvertently removed the BI Publisher entry from the COMS Add In page within Word.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the desktop a couple of times but cannot get the BI Publisher Add-in to show up again under Word Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins so that I can enable it.  Start > Oracle BI Publisher Desktop > Enable or Disable Template Builder doesn't help, nor does Start > Oracle BI Publisher Desktop > Set Template Builder Language.  I have also uninstalled & reinstalled Java, that hasn't solved the problem.

Here is what Word > Options > Add-ins > COM Add-ins  looks like currently with Java & the BIP Desktop reinstalled:

I've searched through various files on the support website but none seems to address this particular issue.

  • Hello,

To resolve the issue test the following steps in a development instance and then migrate accordingly:

Check the Microsoft Word Com Add-Ins options for the following items and ensure they are active / enabled:

         TBMenus2007 or TBmenus

    1. Open Microsoft Word and Navigate -> File -> Options -> Add-Ins.
    2. On the same page you will see function Manage : COM -add-ins, click GO button.
    3. Add and enable TBMenus2007 if not already listed.
    4. Save the changes and confirm Microsoft Word now displays the Add-In.

  • Thanks for your response.  The problem is that once I've completed steps 1 and 2, there is no TBmenu or BI Publisher item available to enable.  If I select the Add button and navigate to the C:\Program Files (x86) > Oracle  or C:\Program Files (x86) > Oracle USA folders there are plenty of .dll files available but all that I try to select give me a "not a valid Office Add-in" message.  Using the File Explorer search function, there are no files found that start with "TBmenu".

Do you know the proper filename that I can select when trying to manually Add the COM Add-in per step 3?

  • Hello

I tried to replicate internal this on my end.
I have Office 2010, Installed the Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for Office and now it is working.
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=48217

    After this reinstal

    https://www.oracle.com/middleware/technologies/bi-publisher/downloads.html

Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 12.2.1.4.0 for 32 bit Office on Windows (255 MB)

Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 12.2.1.4.0 for 64 bit Office on Windows (248 MB)

Kindly can you please check it out?

After the test confirm the results if worked or not so we can check again

    Thank you

  • Were you able to resolve this issue. I am facing similar problem where the Template Builder AddIn is missing.

  • Use proper version of publisher addin as compatible to office and before installation check your MS office is 32 bit or 64 bit.

If it is 32 bit you need to install 32 bit publisher setup.

  • I'm facing the same problem, even I tried uninstalling and installing again. I just can see the BI tab at Excel but not at Word where I need.

  • Hello, I had same problem and the reason is I installed wrong BI publisher version. I am on 64 bit windows but installed 32 bit BI publisher version. When I installed latest 64 bit version, the problem is resolved.

  • Hi, I solved it by installing other version, for example the error was with version 12.213 and I installed 12.214 and with that I saw the BI tab at Word and at Excel.

  • User_YBNPW i have installed BI Publisher 12.2.1.4 as you've said, still having the same issue as discussed above.

i can only see BI publisher add-in on Excel 2016 but not on WORD 2016

  • When I installed BIP 12.2.1.4 the menus were missing in MS Word (2007), with BIP 11.1.1.9 the issue was the same until I installed TBMenusSetup. Then I leave TBMenusSetup and uninstalled BIP 11g and installed BIP12c, now I can see the menus.

  • @user9525019 Where were you able to find the TBMenusSetup MSI file on your PC? I found TBAddInSetup64.msi in the "DotNetInstallFiles" sub-directory, but not TBMenusSetup

  • I think some installs (binaries) have that file, some do not. What I did is I installed that version which had that file.

  • So, what helped me...

I had to have Visual studio tools for office runtime installed

Had to have "Oracle BI Publisher Desktop 12.2.1.4.0" (64bit for Windows Office) installed

Had to ensure the add-in is enabled in MS Word

THEN, had to run this from my Windows start menu, which was the final bit, making my BI Publisher tab/ribbon visible in Word:

I hope this helps folks !

  • Shant Sarkissian_NES -

The step to enable the template builder from windows start menu worked for me. Thank you

  • @user9525019 I tried different installation files but was not able to find the TBMenusSetup file in any of them. Can you please help me with the link of the file which had the correct add in file?

  • I can't believe how gullible I must be to think that Oracle will actually create an installer that works for this product. For YEARS, my friends, across many releases, this has been an issue. I've faced it in 11g, 12, and now Oracle Analytics Publisher.

  • Even Today, I am facing the same issue. Tried all the responses above , but still no luck!

  • I am facing same issue as well. Tried all steps and nothing. Anything in the DotNetInstallFiles is for OLD version and doesn't work. Any suggestions??

After trying everything that is listed on this thread and literally banging my head against the wall, I was finally able to resolve it. I am not sure if this will work for others but this is a little different from everything mentioned here. So here goes

I opened word and went to File>Options>Add-ins. Went to Manage>Disabled Items and clicked on Go. There was an add-in called tbaddin64. Clicked on that and clicked Enable. Clicked on Close and then clicked on OK.

Then went back to File>Options>Add-ins. Went to Manage>COM Add-ins and clicked on Go. Checked BI Publisher Template Builder for Word 64bit. Clicked OK.

The BI Publisher add-in menu is now visible on word.

    Hope this helps.

The part that sucks is every other time that I open Word or a template, I get an error pop-up saying there was a problem with tbaddin64 and it forces me to disable it. But, I can follow the above steps and re-enable it. It's just nuts. But atleast there is a workaround to keep things moving.
