DVCS - data set from OTBI

Summary
DVCS - data set from OTBI
Content
Folks,
I am somewhat new to DVCS and have question.
We can create a connection to OTBI in Data Sync where the connection type is "Oracle BI Connector" and the URL in my case is:
xxx.xxx.us2.oraclecloud.com/analytics. Then we can have an analysis in OTBI show up as a data source in DVCS.
Question 1: am I correct above ?
We can create a connection to Oracle Applications (oracle cloud applications) in DVCS. I have that too and it is the same url as I had in Data Sync.
xxx.xxx.us2.oraclecloud.com/analytics. So essentially its a connection to OTBI from DVCS, and an OTBI analysis can show up as a data source in DVCS.
Question 2: Is it a connection to OTBI from DVCS ?
Question 3: If answer to both #1 and #2 is yes, then why would I ever need to use Data Sync to have OTBI analysis appear as data source in DVCS when I can directly connect DVCS to OTBI ?
Regards
M. Jamal

Hi,
1) you are correct
2) yes you are correct
Usually Data Sync is used to upload Data to the cloud, so you will have a copy of your data in BICS and you'll need to keep them in sync via Data Sync. While if you set the connector in DVCS directly then you're sourcing directly from OTBI on the fly.

Only reason could be performance i believe

Thanks.
You say:
"so you will have a copy of your data in BICS"
Do you really mean copy of data in DVCS not BICS ?
And if we have a connector to OTBI directly in DVCS, why would any one ever use Data Sync ? I can't think of a reason.

You may well want to copy data from the PVO's as well as the Presentation in OTBI to as DBaaS instance. Once the data is in DBaaS you can model it how you like - perhaps even use Analytic Views in 12.2 and then allow it to be consumed by DVCS, BICS or even something like APEX.
