Summary:

Hi, in our company we are using shifted quarters (for instance Q3 is from December to February). In case I use in report column Quarter of Year, I get standard quarter setting (Q3 is July to September).

Could I define our own quarters? Thank you for all hints and advices.

  • Typically this would be handled by creating your own Date dimension with your custom defined Financial year

Exactly as @Joshua C. Stewart pointed. If you have you have your onw requirements in respect to time dimension, you have to design it beforehand as database table (with all attributes needed - like your fiscal year "division") and then you just join this time dimension table (granularity is calendar day - this is usually the primary key of this dimension - either in DATE format or as numerical form - YYYMMDD representation of date) to your "fact" data - in DV creating multi-table data set (or modelling it in metadata and exposing as subject area in OAC/OAS). And with this setup you don't need to rely on those auto-generated "derivations" of date column in data set (which are good, but of course cannot cover all possible scenarios). Simply basic Kimball principles (dimensional data mart) applied in reality and leveraged in BI toool.....

  • Thank you both, guys! It helps me to solve it...
