Add a quick and fast SQL Editor/Developer Feature

Oracle Analytics is allowing to create a dataset and then add a manual query using SQL. (See screenshot below)

A large number of users & customers are requesting to have a feature allowing to do a quick SQL similar to TOAD or SQL Developer.

The current process is taking 5 clicks to access the manual query but users don't necessarily want to create a dataset, they just want to run quick queries.

Therefore, the idea would be to offer an easy and faster way to run a SQL query via an editor, maybe via the "Create" button on the homepage.

The query could be saved and use to be imported in a data flow or dataset.

Then based on the below screenshot, the important part would be the SQL Statement and the button to run, pause, stop a query and see the tables, with ability to have tabs. (See second screenshot)

The original idea request to be pushed to the idea lab was provided by AT&T.

Would SELECT only be sufficient? One difference between OAC and using say the web tools in ADW or ADB is that when you enter manual sql -- we focus on read-only experiences.

Perhaps a related idea would be to enable a user to open Oracle SQL Developer Web, create a query there, and then easily add to a dataset (kind of like create a new single file-based dataset)?

Would this also be a viable option?

WIth all due respect, I would prefer Oracle to focus on tasks that are higher priority and way more urgent than this. I can survive without it, and I knwo the community has been waiting LONG times for other ideas to be fulfilled.

I think having a read-only experience is what is requested by customers and something easier to access and faster to use. I don't think opening Oracle SQL Developer Web might be a replacement to this idea as some customers are not using it. But maybe others have different point of views.

Yes please. Adding it as a Data Flow step would also greatly reduce clunky steps into a single step. There's so much advanced formulas & functions that we could apply if we had this. Right now we have to do this as a manual query then push it through Data Flow whereas we would rather have any & all transformation done in Data Flow & not have to jump between manual query & then data flow.

@User_FBG8L this seems like a related but useful idea — allow a step (perhaps at the add data stage ) in a data flow which allow experessing a manual sql. Can you create a new idea entry so it gets its own votes?
