Hi forum

Has anyone tried importing an Essbase cube on public cloud (in our case Oracle Fusion GL cube) and another on-premise Essbase cube in the RPD using OBIEE 12c (on-premise)?

I saw that importing 2 Essbase cubes is possible with 12c:

Can OBIEE 12C be connected to 2 Essbase cubes?

Thanks a lot for your help!

As stated in the other thread you can connect to 100 cubes since 10.1.3.2 if you feel like it that has nothing to do with version.

Cloud will be the issue. Not sure that you can have a direct connection string which the RPD connection pool object will be able to use to establish a connection any time soon. I.e. not in the current incarnation.

Thanks Christian. Do you know why it won't be possible create a connection pool to the the Fusion Cloud GL Essbase cube please? Docs states that BI Server uses Essbase client libraries to connect to Essbase data sources.. so wouldn't it just mean specifying the hostname and port?

    Saw this:

Using Non-Oracle, and Cloud-Hosted Databases with OBIEE 11g - Rittman Mead Consulting

so thought if 11g can do it why not 12c?

or is the c in 12c not really cloud :-p

Not had a chance yet unfortunately. I will give it a go as soon as I get something to play with. Was hoping someone else has tried before...

  • Actually the question is not if OBIEE 12c can do it but more to know if Fusion Cloud GL Essbase cube really act like a "LAN" cube. So are the same services and protocols available? (I assume there is probably a VPN and your cloud cube isn't exposed like that to everyone ....)

So if you can connect by command line from your laptop using the Essbase client to your Fusion Cloud GL Essbase cube then 98% chances (+/- 2%) OBIEE 12c can makes it as well.

Just don't complain about performances as it will also depend on the connection between your OBIEE server and the cloud instance (again I really hope, and assume, there is a VPN in between).

I don't have any Fusion Cloud GL Essbase cube available to test (and didn't use one for now), so can't tell you more.

As long as your cloud act as a local network hosted cube it's fine for OBIEE...
